Frequently Asked Questions
Is counselling for me?
People seek counselling for a variety of reasons. Most people want relief of symptoms and to create change and growth. Sometimes people want to deal with long-standing emotional patterns or to eliminate anxiety or depression. Other times it's in response to unexpected life changes, such as a divorce, loss, or work and life transitions. Many seek advice and counsel as they pursue personal exploration and growth. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy can help address depression, anxiety, patterns, conflict, grief, stress management and general life transitions. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting more out of life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards change.
Can I substitute medication for therapy?
For some people, a combination of medication and therapy is the correct course of action. Working with your MD, you can determine what's best for you. However, medication does not change the thoughts or emotions that cause or sustaining the pain. Therapy addresses the cause of the pain and their mental and emotional responses such as anxiety, depression and struggle. That is, instead of treating the symptoms, therapy addresses the cause of the pain and the behaviour patterns that create the anxiety, depression, struggle, etcetera.
